Utilizing The Faculty Bio Template

Accessible, Professional Web Home Page

The purpose of the Faculty Bio Template is to give faculty a professional, accessible web presence. This template is web editor agnostic - meaning it can be edited by any web editor that is comfortable to the editor. The reason the template is in this format is to give faculty an easy framework to create an accessible, professional look in a short amount of time - not worrying about the need to learn how to use a specific web editor.

Obtaining The Faculty Bio Template

To allow for easy deployment of the template, users can use any web browser, navigate to the Faculty Bio Template, and save the web page to their local hard drive - or any other location preferred. To obtain the Faculty Bio Template, go through the following steps:

    Locating The Faculty Bio Template

  1. Go to the following URL using any web browser. In this example and all that will follow, Internet Explorer will be used: http://www.csun.edu/ati/crimsonfacultybio.html

     

     

  2. Naming The Faculty Bio Template

  3. In the web browser, go to <Page>, then select <Save As..>.

  4. Save the page9/11/099/11/09ng> Window, set Filename: to newindex.html. Then set Save as type: to Webpage, HTML only (*.htm;*.html).

  5. Saving The Template To The WebDrive

  6. In the location bar in the “Save Webpage” window, navigate to your public_html folder, under your Webdrive. To get there, select <Computer> in the left pane.

  7. In the right pane, select <CSUN Login Name (\\webdrive.csun.edu) (W:)>. In this example, it is ati on 'CSUN High Availability Samba (webdrive)' (W:).

  8. In the right pane, select the folder <public_html>. Once you have navigated there, select <Save> in the bottom right corner of the “Save Webpage” window.

After completing these steps, the Faculty Bio Template has been saved to the Webdrive (W:). Now the document can be edited to the end-users liking. As mentioned before, any web editor can be used to edit the document. There is documentation on editing the Faculty Bio Template using Contribute, Dreamweaver, and an Open Source Web Editor - KompoZer.
